Organic wines shine at the 2024 Orange Wine Show
Amidst a field of over 330 entries at last week’s Orange Wine Show, organic wines took out 6 of the available 13 top gold trophies, clearly showing that the Region has embraced the virtue of producing grapes organically and making wines under the organic standard.
The Tamburlaine Organic Wines team were particularly pleased with the results, achieving the “Most Successful Exhibitor” major trophy, as well as top gold in the following categories:
• Class 03 Sauvignon Blanc: 2024 On the Grapevine Sauvignon Blanc (RRP $25)
• Class 04A Chardonnay: 2023 Point 65 Chardonnay (RRP $30)
• Class 10 Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot straight varietals as labelled, 2021 vintage and younger:
2023 Reserve Malbec (RRP $48) – “A fabulous drink”, said the category judges.
• Class 14 Mature Red: 2018 Reserve Syrah (RRP $48) – “The best wine showing the complexity of bottle age but with freshness and fruit length”, the judges commented.
Of the 19 Tamburlaine Organic Wines entered in the show, 15 were awarded medals.
Chief Winemaker and Managing Director, Mark Davidson said, “Wine of exceptional quality is entirely achievable through sustainable grape growing and wine making practices, which was evident in today’s show results. No surprise to us! The talent and cohesion of our viticulture and winemaking team are doing our long history of organic grape growing in Orange proud.”
